Looking for protection
One truth has become clear to me through the years: every person carries a light within. Without exception.
That light is the divine spark that allows us to become our highest selves. It fuels our creativity, our compassion, our purpose, and our ability to leave the world better than we found it. When we protect and nurture it, it shines brightly for others to see.
Some people have guarded that light throughout their lives. They have strengthened it through courage, gratitude, kindness, and meaningful work. Their presence naturally inspires those around them.
Others have allowed life’s disappointments, fears, and distractions to cover that light. Every negative thought we embrace, every compromise we justify, every selfish pursuit we chase, and every day we neglect what truly matters places another layer over the brilliance already inside us. Over time, those layers become so thick that we forget our light ever existed.
But it is still there.
No matter how long it has been hidden, your light has never disappeared. It simply waits beneath years of fear, disappointment, regret, and self-doubt. You can remove those layers one decision at a time. You can remember who you are. You can rediscover why you are here.
Perhaps life’s challenges exist because they reveal what truly matters. Anything worth becoming requires effort. The greatest danger is not failure but forgetting yourself while pursuing empty rewards and temporary pleasures.
Your light is waiting.
The only person who can keep it hidden is you.
Discover Your Light
Your light will not look like anyone else’s.
Each of us has been given unique gifts that serve both ourselves and the world. For some, that gift is building a business that creates opportunity and improves people’s lives. For others, it is teaching, leading, creating art, raising a family, healing, encouraging, inventing, or simply showing extraordinary kindness to everyone they meet.
Whatever your calling may be, pursue it with your whole heart. Purpose strengthens your light.
We begin losing ourselves the moment we start living someone else’s story instead of our own. We chase careers because they impress other people instead of fulfilling us. We compromise our values for temporary success. We make choices that bring immediate rewards while quietly stealing something far more valuable—our integrity.
Every decision shapes the person we become.
Dishonesty dims your light. So do jealousy, bitterness, selfishness, envy, cruelty, and resentment. Fear may become the darkest veil of all because it convinces us that the world is hostile and that we are not enough.
Eventually, we stop recognizing ourselves.
When that happens, we need something—or someone—to remind us who we have always been.
Remember Who You Are
Many people spend their lives following expectations they never chose. They become successful by society’s standards while feeling strangely empty inside. They do everything they were told would make them happy, only to discover they have been living someone else’s definition of success.
Life has a remarkable way of interrupting that illusion.
Sometimes it introduces a person whose authenticity awakens something forgotten within us. Someone living honestly and fully becomes a mirror that reveals the distance between the life we are living and the life we were meant to live.
That realization can change everything.
When you begin asking, “How can I contribute?” instead of “What can I gain?” your true self begins to emerge again.
Think back to childhood.
Before criticism, rejection, comparison, and disappointment shaped your thinking, your light shone effortlessly. You laughed more freely. You loved more openly. You believed more confidently. You acted from curiosity instead of fear.
That person still lives within you.
You do not have to transform your entire life overnight. You simply need to make one better choice today.
Choose service over selfishness.
Choose honesty over convenience.
Choose gratitude over complaint.
Choose forgiveness over resentment.
Choose courage over fear.
Every one of those decisions removes another layer from your light until it begins shining once again.
Refuse to Let Others Dim Your Light
Throughout my life, I have met people from every walk of life. Every one of them possesses a light worth seeing.
Some protect it.
Some have forgotten it.
Sadly, people who have buried their own light often feel uncomfortable around someone whose light still shines. Rather than rediscover their own, they criticize, judge, discourage, or diminish others. They mistake someone else’s joy for arrogance and someone else’s confidence for pride because it reminds them of what they have lost.
I have experienced that personally. People have judged, criticized, and dismissed me—sometimes without knowing me at all. Their opinions no longer define me because I understand they often reveal more about the darkness they are battling than about the person standing before them.
Do not surrender your light to someone else’s pain.
No one else gets to determine your worth.
No one else decides how honestly you live, how generously you give, how deeply you forgive, or how faithfully you pursue your purpose.
Those choices belong to you.
Fear will always tempt you to shrink, to blend in, or to seek approval. Resist it.
No matter where you have been or how much of your light feels hidden today, you can always begin again.
Make choices that move you toward truth.
Make choices that move you toward kindness.
Make choices that move you toward purpose.
Most of all, make choices that move you toward the light.
Because the world does not need another person hiding who they were created to become.
It needs you shining as brightly as you can.
